Mike Wilson 1958-2018

Mike Wilson was the Isthmian League Statistician for over half of his life, before he passed away in late 2018. Mike was passionate about statistics and became known to a larger audience through the publication of a substantial number of books relating to various Leagues and their histories. He was naturally the first man that Chairman Nick Robinson turned to for assistance with the figures when creating the Isthmian League Centenary Book.

I used to speak to Mike about his books and suggested digitising them all and placing them in an area where more people could gain access to them. This would also allow everyone to appreciate the sheer amount of work that he had to undertake, much of which came in an era without computers, and in September 2018 he passed me his first two Isthmian League Statistical Reviews to make a start on this project. What I didn't realise at the time was that I would never see him again! I was also unable to make contact with his son to retrieve any further books. However, I still wanted to see this project through and thanks to Steve Farmery, who had a full set of books, I was able to digitise all 29 of them for inclusion here in this section forever dedicated to Mike.

Due to time constraints I was only able to take photos of approximately 2,900 pages of material instead of scanning them, but the quality of the information is not compromised. If someone does actually want to provide scanned copies, please go ahead and I'll happily use their versions instead of these. Please also note that by clicking on any of the front page images will start a download which will take a minute or two, due to size. Thanks to Chris at Hendon FC for supplying the Athenian League books in pdf format.

Thank you for everything Mike. For your help and support over the years, your entertaining and forthright conversation and most relevantly for your statistical work that will hopefully inspire other people to produce their own histories. Rest In Peace mate!
